Why should I study at NZIST?
NZIST has earned a reputation over many years of offering high-quality classes taught by experienced, dedicated teachers. Our teachers recognise that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to teaching English and that every student has a language-learning style. In our classes, students use grammar in a practical way and learn vocabulary that they can immediately utilise in their daily lives. As a result, students strengthen their reading and listening comprehension skills and the outside world becomes an easier place to navigate. At our school, communication is key. Students can expect to improve the clarity of their written expression and most importantly, develop the tools to speak confidently and with clearer pronunciation. Our school has a welcoming atmosphere. Past students often stop by to visit their former teachers and counsellors, recommend us to their friends and family and tell us again and again how learning English at NZIST has enriched their lives.
Where is NZIST?
We are located on Albert Street near the corner of Victoria Street, just down the road from the iconic Auckland Skytower.
I'm not sure what my English level is. Which class should I study in?
We will give you a placement test on your Orientation Day and then put you in an appropriate level based on your test result.
Can I try a class before I decide to enrol?
What should I bring in order to enrol at NZIST?
If you are coming to NZIST to enrol in person, please bring your passport, a valid visa (if you have one already), a couple of passport-size photos, $120 cash for your textbook deposit and workbook, pens and notebooks. If you already have it, please also bring your travel and medical insurance which should cover the duration of your course and meet NZQA Code of Practice requirements. If you don't have insurance, our helpful Student Services staff will help you to arrange some.
Can I start my course any time?
What time does school start and finish each day?
School starts at 9:20 am and finishes at 1:40 pm with two 10-minute breaks at approximately 10:40 and 12:10. Our counsellors will remind you about class times on your Orientation Day. You will have the same teacher for the entire session and will be expected to complete homework every day. Our class times also suit parents and grandparents who need to drop off and pick up school-age children.
How long does it take to finish one language level?
Generally our students stay in their class level for about twelve weeks, which amounts to one full cycle of the class textbook. There are progress tests every six weeks to monitor and evaluate student achievement.
What kind of activities does NZIST offer?
Our students regularly go on class trips and take advantage of the diverse range of cultural, tourist and sporting activities that Auckland has to offer. For any activity off campus, there will be at least one NZIST staff member accompanying the group. Some activities are free while you may need to pay for others.

Tip: it is a good idea to take photos of your room and the flat before you move in, so you will have evidence of any pre-existing damage.
